- and much much more
Physical aging isn't exactly a whole bunch of fun I'm finding. Wrinkles, jowls, sagging breasts, crinkly neck, muffin top waistline - yuk! And it seems like it all sneaked up on me. Do others of you have difficulty recognizing the new person in the mirror?
But STOP with negative thinking! Let's put it all into perspective. Having lost two friends barely in their 50's, one to a heart attack and the other to cancer, showed me what's really important - enjoying your day-to-day life - family, friends, doing your best in work and play and keeping fit. It's all you really have. Life can change drastically in a split second. Don't you owe it to yourself to be the best you can be?
We've heard it all before and it's still true. Exercising regularly and eating healthy foods are really important for disease prevention. There are no guarantees but you give yourself a better chance of living longer.
What if you already have a chronic disease? Millions of people do - at younger and younger ages. Obesity with all its complications is rampant. Heart disease and cancer continue to be the top killers. Crippling arthritis and a whole host of auto-immmune diseases make life miserable for many.
Yet, there is still lots you can do to improve the quality of your life. Whether you're working on prevention or trying to regain your health, this antiaging health guide will have something to help you get more out of your life.
Watching my parent's generation aging has taught me what type of old person I want to try to be - positive, active, involved in life for as long as possible.
My aunt is my role model for how I would love to be in my 80's. She's 84 years old. She had a mild heart attack over ten years ago. Since then she does everything she can to eat right, exercise and keep herself fit. She's full of energy, travels all over, reads voraciously. She's totally involved in her family, extended family (moi) and her wide circle of friends. In other words, totally immersed in life.
Her attitude on aging is "What's the point of dwelling on it? - you can't stop it - we're all going to die some day so have some fun while you're here.
